Wisconsin Avenue will get a much needed overhaul this fall.

The state is preparing to do an overlay of the street from the north end of the railroad viaduct to the turn-off at Big Mountain Road, according to Whitefish City Manager Chuck Stearns.

The overlay is scheduled to begin in early September, sometime after Labor Day.

The project is funded with federal funds, which are held by the state of Montana for several of the state highway roads that are inside the city limits, Stearns said.

The engineer’s estimate put the project at just over $800,000. However, the low bid came from LHC Inc. at about $655,000.
