Hold on Tight- Bulls, broncs and cowboys in Ronan Pioneer Days rodeo

The Ronan Pioneer Days Rodeo took place last weekend over three days. On Friday night, it was all about the bulls and broncs, with saddle bronc riding, mini bull riding, and bull riding. The evening also featured a scholarship competition where students competed for money to help pay for school.
Friday started with the Kiddie Rodeo at noon that included sheep riding, sheep dressing, stick horses races, and more. Then later on in the day the open rodeo started up again. It continued again after the parade on Sunday afternoon with more action, including the wild buffalo ride.
There were many local winners in the open rodeo. Payton Fitzpatrick won the bull riding competition with a score of 81. Will Powell of St. Ignatius continued his winning ways with a first place finish in steer wrestling. Zane Walchuk of Ronan was second in junior breakaway roping. Pete White took second in calf roping with a time of 16.8. The ladies breakaway competition had a crowd of local top finishers, including Hailey O’Hern of Ronan, who took first, Arlee’s Callie Otaupalik, who was second, Abby Knight of Charlo, who finished third, and Sara Crimmins of Ronan, who was fourth.
Josie Moulding of Arlee and Adrianna Johnson of Polson tied for the win in the junior barrel racing.
In the Ladies barrels, Abby Knight was first with a time of 15.91. Also from Charlo was Becky Jo Dumont, who was second. Will Powell and Riley Bailey were second in team roping with a time of 6.5 seconds.

Colorado swimmers take on Flathead Lake

First Paddle for Clean Water benefits Flathead Lakers
The first-annual Paddle for Clean Water took place on a cool Sunday morning at Flathead Lake’s King’s Point. Over 100 people participated in the event, which aimed to raise money for the Flathead Lakers, a conservation organization in Polson. Even with the chilly start, nobody backed out. In fact, they had a few extras. One of the organizers, Dana Johnston, said she was happy with the turnout.
Small cherry crop likely to arrive earlier
The cherries around Flathead Lake will be harvested earlier than usual this year.
