James "Pat" Halley died peacefully at Bella Angel Residential Care on Aug. 2, 2015, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho at the age of 91.

Pat is survived by his wife of 21 years, Carmen DeBroux Halley of Coeur d'Alene; his son and daughter-in-law Don and Judy Halley of Littleton, Colo.; his daughter and son-in-law Terry and Rich Elkins of Pascagoula, Miss.; and his daughter-in-law Kay Bobince and her husband Mike of Spirit Lake, Idaho. Pat will also be dearly missed by Carmen's five children, as well as by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son James "Davey" Halley; sisters Delores Lovett, Bernice Goulding, and Mary Mathias; and brother John Halley. Also preceding Pat in death was his first wife and the mother of his children, Freida Reed Halley; and his second wife, Terry Graeme Halley.

Pat was born Jan. 2, 1924, in Fort Smith, Ark., the son of Albert S. and Lillian W. Halley. After graduating from Fort Smith High School, he served as a corporal in the Army Air Corps, then studied to be a mortician and managed a funeral parlor in Fort Smith. He later changed career paths and became a lineman for Mountain Bell Telephone, taking an early retirement at age 55. Pat enjoyed life and had many interests, which included building homes and collecting classic cars, including his Model T and Model A, which he proudly drove in numerous parades. He was a Presbyterian by faith, and he and Carmen enjoyed Thursday Bible Study in the Fireside Room at The First Presbyterian Church. He was well loved and by friends, neighbors, and family.

A celebration of Pat's life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8 at Bestland, 606 E. Best Ave., Coeur d'Alene, where Pat and Carmen resided for the past three years.

Pat's family is grateful for the compassionate caregivers at Bella Angel and from Autumn Crest Hospice, as well as the caring support provided by his devoted friends during his final months. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to New Beginnings of North Idaho, a program that provides humble support and steadfast honor to veterans who served and sacrificed for their country.
