Potkonjak wins tourney

Joseph Potkonjak, 16, won the Gallatin Valley junior championship on July 29-30 at Bridger Creek Golf Course in Bozeman.

Potkonjak, who will be a senior at Bigfork High School, shot a 76 on the first day of the tournament, two shots behind the leader. He quickly took over the lead the second day finishing with a 69, for a total of 145 for the two-day tournament. He won by three strokes.

Potkonjak was joined at the tournament by his Bigfork teammate Colton Stodghill, who finished with a 167. 

On Aug. 6, Potkonjack will compete in the Flathead Valley Junior Championship at Eagle Bend Golf Course in Bigfork. He will then travel to Lethbridge for the Montana/Alberta Cup from Aug. 9-11.

Potkonjak helped lead the Bigfork High School boys golf team to a third place finish at state this year. Potkonjak tied for second at the tournament.
