Jon Douglas Reynolds, a 67-year-old Libby man, was killed in a traffic accident on Yaak River Road Saturday afternoon, according to a press release from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
Troy Dispatch received a call at approximately 5:30 p.m. reporting the accident near mile marker 17. Montana Highway Patrol, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and Troy Volunteer Ambulance responded, along with Advanced Life Support, Life Flight and fire department support.
The driver of the vehicle, an unidentified adult male, was seat-belted into the vehicle. He sustained unspecified injuries and was transported by helicopter to Kalispell Regional Medical Center for treatment. His condition was unknown as of press time.
Reynolds, the passenger, was reportedly not wearing his seat belt and was ejected during the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his next of kin have been notified.
According to the press release the vehicle, a 2004 Chevrolet pickup, went off the right side of the highway while negotiating a left curve moving southward on Yaak River Road. The driver apparently overcorrected and rolled the vehicle at least one and a half times before it came to a stop.
The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation by the Montana Highway Patrol, but a trooper was requested to meet the helicopter at the hospital for a blood draw on the driver upon his arrival at Kalispell Regional Medical Center.
