Summer is here in the Flathead Valley. I would like to remind people, if you plan to float the local rivers, check out the area that you plan to float and make sure that all are wearing personal flotation devices (life jackets).

With above-normal summer temperatures and the lack of moisture, we are entering our wild land season not in very good shape. With this said, make sure that you have a defensible space of 35 feet around your home or buildings. Clean out your rain gutters and remove pine needles from the valley peaks on your roofs. Open burning is not allowed until October 1. We are still in Stage 1 restrictions. Thanks to all community members for observing no fireworks and following the stage 1 restrictions this past month.

For the month of July, Bigfork Fire Department responded to seventy-six (76) incidents:

Gas leak (LPG) (1), Dispatched and cancelled (3), Electrical wiring problem (1), Emergency Medical Services, excluding vehicle MVA’s (58), Structure Fire (1), Alarm system malfunction (3), Unauthorized burning (6), Unintentional system operation-no fire (3).

Bigfork Fire Department is always looking for volunteers. It is a great experience helping your community in the time of need. We will provide the training if you have the time and commitment.

Enjoy the summer weather, be safe, and drive responsibly!
