Dr. Norma Lee 'Cookie' Cook, 87

Dr. Norma Lee "Cookie" Cook, 87, following an extended illness, Cookie went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Aug. 1, 2015, at the Hays Convalescent Center in San Francisco, Calif.

Cookie was the third child of John Lester and Ruth (Burke) Cook. She was born on Aug. 23, 1927, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

She graduated from Coeur d'Alene High School in 1946. She attended North Idaho Junior College and received her A.A. degree in 1948 from Graceland University. In 1951 she received her B.A. in health and physical education from Washington State University. In 1953 she received her M.A. degree from the New York Theological Seminary, and in 1956 she received her M.A. in religious education from California State. She continued her education, receiving her Doctorate degree in higher education from the University of California, Berkley.

Cookie spent her career teaching at various universities and high schools in Illinois, Washington and California.

She was an active, longtime member of the Delores Park Church in San Francisco.

She loved playing all types of sports in her younger days, before there were any organized sports for girls. She also enjoyed watching sports; she especially enjoyed tennis, the San Francisco Giants and the San Francisco 49ers.

Cookie was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Danny, Ernest and Jerry; and one sister, Georgia Newell.

Surviving are her brothers: Dale (Mary) Cook of Brentwood, Calif., and Ken (Elaine) Cook of Coeur d'Alene; her sisters, Ruth (Jim) Simons of Lewiston, Idaho, Jewell (Dale) Wooldridge of Coeur d'Alene, Kay (George) Vancleave of Coeur d'Alene and Kathy Cook of Spokane, Wash.; she is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Her memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, 2015, at Delores Park Church in San Francisco. There will be a graveside service at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31, 2015, at Riverview Cemetery in Coeur d'Alene.
