Back-to-school guide for students and parents

Another summer is coming to an end and another school year is about to begin. The first day of school for the Libby School District is Tuesday, Sept. 1.

Student and parent orientation for Libby seventh and eighth graders will take place Thursday, August 27, at 5:30 p.m. Orientation for students in ninth through 12th grade will be at 7 p.m.

Libby Elementary school registration will take place on August 18 and 19 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. for new students only. New students will need the following information when they register; An up-to-date immunization record, a birth certificate, the name, address and phone number of previous schools, a report card from the previous schools, and contact information for an emergency contact. Registration for returning students will take place Aug. 20 and 21 at 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. The Libby Elementary open house will be Monday, Aug. 31, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.

Any elementary student that plans on participating in extra-curricular activities must have a sports physical prior to any practice.

The first day for kindergarten students will be Tuesday, Sept. 8, at 8:15 a.m. The first day for preschool students will be Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 8:30 a.m.

Student pictures for the district will be Friday, September 4, and retakes will be offered Thursday, October 29.

The Libby Public Schools dress code requires clothing that is appropriate for a school setting. No clothing that displays any drugs, tobacco or alcohol products. No clothing that displays any obscenities or suggestive materials. No clothing that exposes the belly, underarms, chest areas, or undergarments. Students who wear clothing that violates the dress code will be asked to change into other clothing. If they have no other clothing with them the school has some that will be offered to them. If they don’t want to wear the clothing that the school offers they can have clothes brought to them. They will not be allowed to return to the classroom until the clothing issue has been resolved.

On September 22 and 23 from 8:30 am until noon at Plummer Center located on Indianhead Road the Libby School District will be offering free early intervention preschool and special education services for eligible children.

It’s for all children from the age of one to five. The program is an individualized program that meets one to three days a week to provide services for children who are developmentally delayed in receptive and expressive language, speech, gross and fine motor skills and cognitive skills.
