Frederick R. Mebius, 68, loving son, brother, uncle and friend to many, passed away Aug. 12, 2015, in Post Falls, Idaho.

Fred was born Dec. 25, 1946, in Leeuwarden, Holland. He was the middle child of three brothers. His family traveled from Holland to the United States in the early 1950s. They moved from Salt Lake City, Utah, to Southern California where Fred and his two brothers enjoyed their youth. In high school, Fred was drafted to serve in the Vietnam War. He faithfully served and returned in 1969. Later, he worked for the Edgewood Lake Tahoe Golf Course for 30 years before retiring.

Fred loved all animals, but especially his German shepherds. For the last 50 years of his life, he had always had at least one four-legged companion by his side. He always made sure that his animals were well cared for.

He also absolutely loved classic cars dated from the late 1950s through the 1970s. He was meticulous about the cars he owned being very clean and looking brand new, spending hours waxing and dusting them.

He was a wonderful man who, while very private, could spark a conversation with anyone in the local grocery store.

Fred is survived by his sisters-in-law Nikki Mebius of Cle Elum, Wash., and Cheri (Kevin) Conway of Klamath Falls, Ore.; his three nieces, Debi (Carl) Williams of Dayton, Nev., Christa (Vince) DeSantis of Dalton Gardens, Idaho, Michelle Mebius of Wilbur, Wash.; his great-niece, Cora Williams of Dayton, Nev.; five great-nephews Carl Williams of So. Lake Tahoe, Calif., Brandon Williams of Carson City, Nev., Joseph DeSantis of Spokane, Wash., Nicholas DeSantis of Hayden Lake, Idaho, Ethan Schroeder of Wilbur and his great-great-niece, Emma DeSantis of Post Falls. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jan Johannes Mebius and Pietrenella Mebius and his two brothers, John J. Mebius and Henk Mebius.

A memorial celebration of life will be held at a later date. The family asks that you consider donations to Hospice of North Idaho in memory of Fred Mebius: Hospice of North Idaho, 9493 N. Government Way, Hayden, ID 83835.
