LAWRENCEBURG, Tenn. — Nearly rained out again, the Glacier 13-15 All-Stars struggled once play finally started for them at the Babe Ruth Baseball World Series, falling to the Southeast champions from Sarasota, Florida, 13-5 in their first game of tournament play.

Sarasota scored three runs in the top of the first inning, and Glacier cut their lead to one run after the second inning, but the Floridians had too much power, scoring eight runs over the next three innings to seal the victory.

Sarasota had 12 hits to Glacier’s five in the contest, with pitcher Stephen Wilmer accounting for five strikeouts.

Rain once again postponed play for Glacier, arriving just ahead of their scheduled morning contest with Sarasota, delaying the start for a second time until 6 p.m. local time. The game was originally to be played on Friday before rain and thunderstorms washed out the second day of the tournament.

Because of the delay, Glacier is scheduled to play a doubleheader today, barring more rain in the area, beginning at 11 a.m. MT with the Pacific Southwest champions from Westchester, California of suburban Los Angeles. Glacier will play Eastern Tennessee champion Giles County at 4 p.m.

The games will be broadcast in the Flathead Valley on 95.9 FM.
