HAYDEN - Former Jobs Plus president Steve Griffitts announced Monday he is running for Hayden mayor.
Griffitts currently is vice president at Mountain West Bank.
"My love for my hometown, my economic development experience and my desire to protect the great quality of life in Hayden has led me to this decision," Griffitts said. "I want to contribute to the future of Hayden in a meaningful way and I believe serving as mayor is the right opportunity."
He said current Mayor Ron McIntire asked him to run.
Griffitts graduated from Coeur d'Alene High School and Brigham Young University. He and his wife, Marilyn, have four children and 12 grandchildren.
He worked to recruit and retain businesses in Kootenai County while with Jobs Plus.
"I believe my background, passion and experience make me the right person to be Hayden's next mayor," he said.
If elected, he plans to find the right solutions for the city by partnering with citizens, the business community, the Coeur d'Alene Airport, Hayden Area Regional Sewer Board, and water and highway districts.
"I look forward to listening and learning from Hayden voters during this campaign," he said.
