Bigfork High School senior Joseph Potkonjak shot under par in every round to help the Montana boys win the Montana/Alberta Jr. Ryder Cup last week in Lethbridge, Alberta.
The Montana boys earned 22.5 points as a team to Alberta’s 13.5. Montana players took on the Canadian opposition both individually and in teams. Similar to a Nassau, points were awarded over three rounds. Whoever won the first nine holes earned a point for their team, and whoever won the last nine holes won a point. Whichever team won the most holes overall received a point, and in the event of a tie half points were awarded.
On the first round Potkonjak shot a 69. The second round he partnered with Great Falls’ Schafer Paladichuk and alternated shots, together shooting a 68. The following day Potkonjak competed individually and shot a 71.
“It was a tremendous experience,” Mike Potkonjak, Joseph’s father said. “They boys really outdid themselves, they really put on a show.”
