SANDPOINT - The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office has released the names of the officers involved in the shooting death of Casey George Alarcon.
The officers were identified as Sandpoint Police Officer Jeremy Inman and Bonner County Sheriff's deputies Aaron Walker and Tyler Jinright.
Inman has worked for Sandpoint Police for nearly four years. Walker and Jinright have been employed by the sheriff's office for nearly six years and 19 months, respectively.
All three officers were placed on paid administrative leave.
"They are currently still off (duty) pending the investigation," Kootenai County Sheriff's Lt. Stu Miller said on Thursday.
The shooting occurred on the afternoon of Aug. 11 at 1016 Ruth Ave.
The KCSO said the trio of officers was attempting to serve an arrest warrant when Alarcon confronted them with a weapon and fired two gunshots.
"Casey produced a gun and fired at the officers," Miller said.
A Bonner County Sheriff's deputy returned fire with one shot, which killed Alarcon. Miller said the identity of that deputy is not being disclosed at this time.
Miller said two of the officers received minor injuries involving powder burns and hearing impairment as a result of the gunfire. Neither were struck by shrapnel or other debris, he added.
A bench warrant for Alarcon's arrest was issued on July 17 for failure to pay $201 in fines and court fees in a 2007 robbery case, according to 1st District Court records.
Alarcon pleaded guilty to robbing the Downtown Crossing, a now-defunct bar, at gunpoint and illegally possessing a firearm due to a prior felony conviction for burglary.
At his sentencing hearing, Alarcon told the court that the rigors of staying clean and sober, working and keeping up with his court-ordered obligations had overwhelmed him in the days leading up to the robbery.
Alarcon was sentenced to concurrent five- to seven-year prison terms and was paroled in 2012, court records show.
A notice advising Alarcon that he had failed to pay his fines and costs was mailed to an address on Pine Street in June, but the notice was returned to the Bonner County Clerk's Office as undeliverable, court documents indicate.
Services for Alarcon are set for 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27, at the Assembly of God Church.
