POST FALLS - A citizen's report led to busting up an alleged auto burglary spree and the arrest of a female driver in Post Falls early Thursday.
A 17-year-old female from Sagle was arrested for eluding, burglary and reckless driving after she bailed out of her vehicle as it was still in motion and was struck by it, according to a Post Falls Police report.
Officers responded to the 3000 block of Tayjan Lane at 3:20 a.m. after a resident reported seeing four people vehicle prowling.
"This was an excellent example of the community reaching out to us to help us do our job," said Detective Dave Beck. "We received a good vehicle description and this citizen was proactive and likely prevented more auto burglaries from occurring."
Beck said the female suspect was not seriously injured, but the vehicle she was in damaged another car.
Police believe Cody Sims, 21, Coeur d'Alene, who was arrested by a Kootenai County Sheriff's Office deputy around the same time in the area and had a warrant for his arrest, is a person of interest in the auto burglary case.
Two other suspects escaped.
Police believe the suspects broke into multiple vehicles in the area of Idahline Road.
"Detectives believe that there are many victims, but few have filed reports," a post on PFPD's Facebook page states. "If victims do not file reports, there's a good chance that the arrested suspects will not be held accountable for taking property from vehicles."
