Leonard A. Lehtola, 93, passed away at his home in Cataldo, Idaho, on Aug. 16, 2015.
Leonard was born in Pine Creek, Idaho, on May 11, 1922, to Waino and Fanny Lehtola. The family moved to Tamarack Ridge when Leonard was 3 years old. He attended and graduated from the Rose Lake School.
Leonard joined the U.S. Army on May 29, 1944, during his time in the service he served with M Company, 3rd Battalion, 124th Infantry Regiment, 31st Infantry Division. He spent time in the Philippines, Mindanao Campaign. He was decorated with the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal (with one Bronze Service Star), and the Combat Infantry Badge.
Leonard married Jean Lance on April 12, 1946, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. They were married for 59 years before Jean's passing in 2005.
He worked for Kellogg Transfer as a Bulldozer Operator for many years, and also served as the Eastside District Road Commissioner.
He enjoyed waterskiing, bowling, dancing and fishing.
Leonard is survived by his three children: Larry Lehtola (Connie), Linda Flatt (Kenneth) and Lenette Pearson; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; both parents; two brothers; one sister and son-in-law Richard Pearson.
A memorial celebration will be held from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015, at the Rose Lake Historical Society (Rose Lake School) in Rose Lake, Idaho.
