Shirley Dale Moon, 80

Mom passed peacefully on Aug. 18, 2015, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. As with all challenges in Shirley's life; it was faced with strength, compassion, love, understanding and humor.

Shirley was born to Cordie and Curtis Kiser on the very special morning of March 20, 1935. The last of six children and the sweetest woman I've ever known. Being born and raised in the depression, mom always cherished the simple things in life and passed that along to anyone that knew her.

After graduation, Mom would spend some time working at the Grand Canyon. Eventually moving to California where Mom would marry Eddie Moon on Sept. 4, 1960. Mom would work in the grocery industry during her time in California. Shirley had a daughter in 1962 before moving to Oregon where she would eventually have a son in 1967.

Mom would spend most of these work years in the nursing industry. Eventually operating her own care home where her constant love and compassion was felt by all around her.

Mom was an angel on Earth for so many; not only the people had she cared for but her friends, family and strangers. If you were lucky enough to meet her, you would never forget her. She would listen to a complete stranger's problem and give them the best advice she could and ask for nothing in return. Mom would always say, I may not have THE answer, but I'm a philosopher and try to look at the situation at all angles before making a decision. Mom was the most selfless person anyone knew.

Through her years Mom painted, wrote poems, read anything she could get her hands on, loved all those around her and taught all around her how to love unconditionally and always put your best foot forward. She enjoyed taking her family when they were young out in the outdoors; fishing, hunting, collecting rocks and arrowheads.

Mom loved cooking and trying new things. She was an extremely healthy eater and she loved her spices. She loved when people would give her fresh herbs or new recipes. The family always looked forward to her wonderful lasagna, chicken and dumplings, pork chops, homemade soup and all her baked goods.

She will be missed and thought of every day.

She is preceded in passing by both her mother and father; brothers: Rex, Ralph and Gene; and sisters: Ruth and Helen; husband Eddie and daughter Sharon. She is survived by her son, Brad and grandsons: James, Patrick and Austin.

Poem by Shirley D. Moon

Belief

I believe in seasons, it is written in the book

You can see them everywhere you look

So when my season over and ended here

I start my new beginning with the Lord's rebirth

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015, at English Funeral Chapel, 1700 N. Spokane St., Post Falls.
