Remainder of Great Bear Wilderness closed
The Daily Inter Lake | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 9 years, 5 months AGO
Due to increased fire activity in the Great Bear Wilderness area — including the Sheep and Granite fires — the Flathead National Forest has increased areas closed to the public.
The closure includes all Flathead National Forest land south of U.S. 2 from Pinnacle to Marias Pass, including the entire Great Bear Wilderness south of Mount Grant to the Spotted Bear Ranger District Boundary and the entire Skyland-Challenge area adjacent to the Lewis and Clark National Forest.
Devil Creek Campground and Zips Rental Cabin are included in the closure area.
This expanded closure on the Hungry Horse Ranger District, along with the wilderness closures on the Spotted Bear Ranger District means that nearly all of the Great Bear Wilderness is closed.
For more information, contact the Hungry Horse-Glacier View Ranger District at (406) 387-3800.
