HAYDEN - Hayden City Councilman Roger Saterfiel is running for re-election.

Saterfiel, who is finishing his eighth year on the council and sixth as president, said he still enjoys being involved in the community.

"This is a good way to do public service," Saterfiel said Friday. "(Being on the council) opens the door for a lot of other opportunities to serve the community."

Saterfiel retired in May 2014. He was Kootenai County Solid Waste director for 13 years. He worked for the county for 28 years, moving through the ranks.

He said he has been busy in retirement.

"I never know where I found the time to work," he joked.

He said he has enjoyed working with others on the city council and with Mayor Ron McIntire.

"Their heart is in the community," Saterfiel said. "They don't have any personal agendas."

He said he is proud of the city's low property tax rate.

"I want to make sure it stays that way," he said.

Saterfiel, 63, has lived in Hayden the past 25 years. He has lived in Kootenai County for more than 50 years.

He is married with two grown children.
