MOSCOW - There was a point when the Post Falls Trojans had all the momentum going their way.

Big plays in the air and on the ground.

Then there was that 18 seconds to start the fourth quarter where the Sandpoint Bulldogs took it back long enough to get a victory.

Wyatt McCormick-Cox caught a 33-yard touchdown pass to pull Sandpoint within a 19-13 deficit, then forced a fumble on the Trojans' next play on offense, and culminated the comeback with a 45-yard touchdown reception, giving the Bulldogs a 20-19 win in the season opener for both schools on Saturday night at the Kibbie Dome.

"It was a battle," Sandpoint coach Satini Puailoa said. "Post Falls played us tough and shut down our running game, so we had to start throwing the ball. We've got an all-state tailback (Kyle Perry, who ran for 59 yards and a touchdown) and some other really good guys, but Post Falls really shut us down and they did a good job of stopping the run."

Perry's score from 2 yards out gave Sandpoint a 7-0 lead after the first quarter.

Post Falls scored twice, once on a 20-yard run by quarterback Nathan Gregory and the second on a 47-yard pass from Gregory to Kameron Welker to take a 13-7 halftime lead.

"It was a good test for us," Post Falls coach Jeff Hinz said. "We've got some experience in some spots and we've got some inexperience in some other spots. We just need to execute for four quarters. It was the tale of two halves for us tonight."

The game, previously scheduled for Friday at Post Falls High, was moved due to smoke in the area.

"I told the players there's no excuses," Hinz said. "Our boys worked their tails off during the summer and we've got to be more consistent. We wanted this game. We wanted to play this game, it didn't matter the day or where, we just wanted to play."

Post Falls struck in the third quarter on a 43-yard reverse pass from Hunter Harmon to Matthew Mills, setting up a 1-yard touchdown run by Kaden Nelson.

"The little things needed to go our way," Hinz said. "We just need to make some improvements from Week 1 to Week 2 and keep getting better."

Gregory had 230 yards passing for Post Falls, which hosts Skyview High of Nampa on Friday.

McCormick-Cox finished with 110 yards receiving for Sandpoint, which hosts University on Friday.
