MILESTONE BIRTHDAY
Anna Josephine (Jo) Kelley Austin
90th Birthday
The family of Anna Josephine (Jo) Kelley Austin recently met to celebrate her 90th birthday. Those in attendance included her six children, Tom (Chris) Austin of San Jose, Calif., Beth (Ed) Hatcher of Dalton Gardens, Dan (Linda) Austin of Spokane Valley, John (Deena) Austin of Medimont, Susan (Wayne) Morrison of Rathdrum and Patty (Jimmy) Morrison of Hayden. Also on hand were many of her 24 grandkids and 26 great-grandkids.
Jo was born on Aug. 31, 1925, in Missoula, Mont. She graduated from the University of Montana in 1943 with a degree in zoology. She met the love of her life, Eugene C. Austin, upon his return from World War II and they were married on Dec. 20, 1947, in Helena, Mont. Upon Gene's passing in February of this year, they had been married for more than 67 years. They traveled to many assignments during his 20 years as a pilot in the Air Force, until he retired as a Major in 1962.
Her love of all creatures, great and small, was reflected for 25 years as she taught science for the Kellogg School District, retiring in 1986. She and Gene then retired to Kootenai County to be near their children, spending summers at their beloved cabin in Echo Bay on Lake Coeur d'Alene.
From her children and theirs: thanks, Mom, for a life very well lived.
