ROYAL CITY — Dec. 25 is commonly accepted as the date of Jesus’ birth, and The Royal City Methodist Church plans to have a birthday party, with cake, for the Savior that day.
Actually, the birthday party will not stand alone. It will come at the end of a Christmas Eve Service, at 3 p.m. on Dec. 24.
“We used to have Christmas Eve services up until about 1965, approximately,” Pastor Alice Warness said. At that time, the congregation decided that people want to spend time with their families on Christmas Eve rather than be at church. They have not had one since.”
The new Christmas Eve Service will be held at 3:00 in the afternoon so that members can celebrate the birth of the Savior with joy and praise and still allow for family time in the evening.
The Christmas Eve Service guests will sing Christmas Carols, read the Christmas story, hear a short message and have the opportunity to just rejoice in the season.
After the service, Pastor Alice will invite everyone present to cake and coffee and fellowship in honor of Jesus. Pastor Alice will provide the birthday cake.
“Everyone is invited, and they don’t have to be Methodist to come,” Pastor Alice said. “We just want to share Jesus with the community.”
