COEUR d’ALENE — Lace up your running shoes.

New Year’s Day is approaching, and that means it’s time for the 39th Annual Hangover Handicap 5-mile fun run.

Every Jan. 1 since 1976, Tesh Inc., a local nonprofit, has hosted this charitable community event that’s fun for people of all ages and athletic abilities. Whether you run, walk, push a stroller or jog with your dog, the Fun Run is a healthy way to start the year.

Participants can register now at teshinc.com, with a few registration fee options available to choose from. Early registration fee (before Dec. 11) is $30 and includes a long sleeve tye-dye T-shirt. After Dec. 11, the fee is $35. For runners that opt out of the T-shirt, the early registration fee is $15, and $20 after Dec. 11.

This year there is an In Spirit Runners option where participants buy a T-shirt for $15, give a $10 donation, and run the race from the comfort of their own home.

The event begins at 9:30 a.m. behind Michael D’s, 203 E. Coeur d’Alene Road, at the east end of Sherman Avenue.

Hot chocolate, coffee, water, energy bars and fruit will be provided to participants before, during and after the run. There will also be a heated tent for runners to gather at the end of the event.

All proceeds from the Hangover Handicap Fun Run benefit Tesh Inc., a Coeur d’Alene 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has served the community for 40 years. Tesh’s core mission is to offer choices and opportunities to people of all ages with disabilities or other challenges that are seeking greater independence, self sufficiency, and participation in their community. Tesh provides rehabilitative services in the area of child development, independent living and employment training.
