MATTAWA — One Mattawa man was injured when his car collided with another at an intersection 10 miles west of Royal City on Nov. 24.

Neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor, the Washington State Patrol reported. Both men were wearing their seat belts.

The collision occurred at about 7:40 a.m., according to the WSP. The vehicles were traveling in the same lane. The crash occurred when the lead vehicle stopped to make a left turn.

The driver of that car, the WSP reported, was Cesar Ramirez Herrera, 25, of Mattawa. He was driving a 2002 silver Chevrolet pickup. It had reportable damage, and Ramirez Herrera made his own removal arrangement.

Ramirez Herrera was eastbound on Highway 26. He was in the lane waiting for westbound traffic to pass so he turn north onto Beverly-Burke Road.

Behind him, Adalberto Rojas Alzate, 16, of Mattawa failed to stop in time, the WSP reported. His vehicle struck the Ramirez Herrera vehicle in the rear.

Rojas Alzate was driving a red 2004 Ford Windstar. Injured, he was taken to Othello Community Hospital by ambulance.

The Windstar was totaled. It was removed from the scene by Davis Towing of Schawana.

According to the WSP, the cause was speed too fast for conditions. Rojas Alzate was cited.
