This past weekend, Polson hosted an opening wrestling tournament. Many local athletes competed well.

Polson

The Polson wrestling team took second place at their home meet behind Class AA Sentinel. They had two first place finishers, two second, one third and one fourth. Winning their weight classes were Renee Pierre at 103 and Mike Corrigan at 205. Pierre, a freshman, went 3-0 on the day and defeated Dakota Thompson of Sentinel in the championship. Corrigan, a senior, also went 3-0 and defeated Jake Freeman of Columbia Falls for first place. Shane Pierre and Cameron Brown each took home second place in their respective weight classes. Pierre lost to Brandon Thomas of Columbia Falls in the championship match for the 126 weight class. Brown was defeated by Jake Hegel of Sentinel in the 132 weight class. Bridger Wenzel took third place in the 120 weight class with a record of 5-1. He defeated Bailey Weible of Mission/Charlo to take third. Jaben Wenzel took fourth place after losing to Kaleb Gravelin in the third place match for the 138 weight class.

Ronan

The Chiefs finished right in the middle of the pack as a team. They had one first place finisher and two fourth place finishers. The champion in the group was Jared Neiss, who defeated Cody Warner of Frenchtown in the championship match in the 145 weight class. Taking fourth place for the Chiefs was sophomore Seth Cheff, who went 3-2 on the day and lost to Beau King of Sentinel in the third place match. Also placing fourth, this time in the 205 weight class, was Gray Cook, who went 3-2 on the day and lost to Tanner Stack of Sentinel for third place. Coach Jaime Muir said the team was missing a few kids due to illness, but said he thought the team looked strong in the opening weekend of wrestling.

Mission/Charlo

The Mission/Charlo wrestling team finished ninth in the tournament with 59 points. They had one first place finisher, one second place finisher, and one fourth place finisher. Earning first place was Ethan Goss-Dickie, who won at 285 and went 4-0 on the day. He defeated Jake Rebish for Sentinel for the championship. Taking second place in the 152 weight class was Trent Dennison, who lost to Chandler Paulson of Sentinel to finish 3-1 on the day. In fourth place in the 120 weight class was Bailey Weible, who lost to Bridger Wenzel of Polson in the third place match. He finished 4-2 on the day.
