MOSES LAKE — Habitat for Humanity of Greater Moses Lake’s Festival of Trees will be celebrated on Saturday, Dec. 12, according to local Habitat officials, but there is a change of venue.

Traditionally the festival is held in the ATEC Building at Big Bend Community College. This year the FOT will be celebrated in the 4-H Building at the Grant County Fairgrounds, located at 3953 Airway Dr. NE.

A silent auction is planned for 5:30 p.m. The live auction is set for 7 p.m. The live auction features a variety of decorated trees, complete with gifts, up for bid.

Tickets to the Festival of Trees cost $65 for a single ticket, $125 for a couple or $450 for a table of eight.

The Festival of Trees is Habitat for Humanity of Greater Moses Lake’s main fund-raiser. It supports the organization’s goal of seeing the elimination of substandard housing in the community.

Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller in Americus, Ga. To date Habitat for Humanity International has built more than 200,000 houses for 1,000,000 people around the world.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Moses Lake came to the area in 1997, with construction on homes starting in 1998.

Habitat for Humanity sells homes to qualified families with a no-profit, financed, no-interest loan. All families commit 450 hours of time into the building and construction of their home.

Each homeowner’s monthly mortgage payments, which range in length from seven to 30 years, go directly into a revolving fund that is in turn used to construct more homes.

Silent and live auction items are still needed for the Festival of Trees. To make a donation, purchase tickets, reserve a table or to decorate a tree, visit www.habitatmoseslake.org. or contact 509-765-4030.
