SANDPOINT — Another fall sports season is in the books, and what great action it was for the local sports teams, with the Bulldog football team extending the season into November with a memorable run to the state championship game.
As always, there were many highlights and outstanding accomplishments, which we’ll delve into briefly in the annual fall wrap up column.
But first kudos should be delivered to Sandpoint athletic director Kris Knowles, and Tom Albertson before him, and Cheryl Klein before them. Hopefully local fans realize the blue ribbon quality of the Bulldog fall sports coaches, a collection of which could rival any school in the state, regardless of size.
Satini Puailoa is an elite football coach, and his first senior class reflects that. Four years ago he took a group of freshman entering a program on hard times, made them bigger, faster and stronger, then infused them with the belief and confidence to compete for a state title. Nobody knows how many hours went into it, but the number is big, and the program is humming again at all level.
