Prosecutors and defense attorneys have agreed to recommend a 10-year commitment to the Montana Department of Corrections, with five years suspended, for a 22-year-old man accused of two separate cutting-related incidents earlier this year.

Angel William Perez of Whitefish pleaded guilty to one felony count of assault with a weapon on Thursday before Flathead District Judge Amy Eddy.

While on the stand, Perez admitted that he had cut himself on June 23 in a suicide attempt on West Fourth Street in Whitefish. A passerby tried to help Perez and he held a razor blade to her and threatened to kill her.

The incident occurred while Perez was out on bond for another assault-with-a-weapon charge. In that case Perez allegedly stabbed a man behind Crush Bar in Whitefish on Jan. 7. Under the plea agreement, the charge in that case was dropped.

Sentencing is set for Feb. 11.
