Frenchtown School, which hosted the class C Tip-Off Basketball Tournament last weekend, flooded over the weekend. A water main inside a boiler room on the north campus broke sometime between 11 p.m. Saturday and 6 a.m. Sunday, flooding the junior high and high school. Frenchtown School District superintendent, Randy Cline, sent notifications out on Sunday that all schools would be closed on Monday. Schools will be closed at least through Wednesday.

According to Cline, the water damage to parts of the building are extensive, but the water did not make it into most of the junior-high classrooms, or the new section of the high school. There was also no damage to the second floor classrooms of the building.

The main that broke has a 1,200 gallon per minute flow. One of Cline’s biggest concerns is the damage done to the high school and junior high gym floors. If they’re ruined, the damage will exceed $100,000.

All events at the school had to be canceled.

No major flooding as snow thaws

“As the ground starts thawing, the rocks start falling,” was a post made on the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page last week. A photo accompanied the post of a big rock which had come down on Mullan Road East near the Big Eddy fishing access in Superior on March 11. “Please be aware of your surroundings and pay attention while driving,” they warned in the post.
