Libby’s Lady Loggers dropped their home game against the Bigfork Valkyries 48-30 on Saturday, Dec. 19.

From the start, Bigfork owned the game, outpacing Libby by five points in the first quarter, which ended at a score of 15-10.

Following that, Bigfork got a narrow lead on Libby in the second quarter, scoring nine to the Lady Loggers’ eight and putting the halftime score at 24-18.

In the third, Libby matched its second quarter score, lagging behind Bigfork’s third quarter score of 11 and putting the game at 35-26.

Libby’s performance reached its valley in the fourth quarter when the Loggers scored 4 points to the Vals’ 13 points, ending the game 18 points behind their opponents.

The big scorers for Libby were sophomore Shannon Reny and freshman Jayden Winslow, who scored 10 and 7 points respectively.

Libby Girls’ Basketball coach Jim May indicated he was not saddened at his team’s loss, as he considered Bigfork’s to be one of the season’s better teams, and thought they played well.

“Against one of the better teams in this part of the state, we played with them for about two and a half quarters,” said May. “Points were hard to come by all night. When we did execute our plan against their very athletic zone defense, we got good looks. We will learn to recognize the places in teams’ defenses where we can get shots. We did it some of the time against Bigfork, but not on a consistent basis. We look forward to playing them again.”

The Lady Loggers will face Troy’s Lady Trojans in Libby at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22.
