Cats swim well at Great Falls

The Columbia Falls boys swim team took fourth at the Great Falls Invitational Saturday, outpacing Class A rival Billings Central by 20 points. The girls were ninth. Combined, the team took seventh overall.
The meet featured all relay races. The boys won the 200 butterfly relay with a time of 1:49.49, took second in the 400 freestyle relay with a 3:38.80, fourth in the 200 medley with a 1:54.16, fifth in the 200 backstroke relay with a 2:02.79, third in the 200 free relay with a 1:38.75 and fifth in the 200 mixed medley with a 1:53.80.
The girls took seventh in the 200 breaststroke relay with a 2:39.46.
“This meet is a great opportunity to see the swimmers in many different events, as a team,” coach Mike Nelson said. “The coaching staff gets to see some hidden talent and move forward for the rest of the season.”
The team travels to Missoula Jan. 9 after Christmas break.

With continued cold weather, the potential for flooding by area rivers and streams has increased, the National Weather Service warned last week.
Search suspended for missing skiers
The search in Grand Teton National Park for two men with ties in the Flathead has been suspended because of inclement weather. The men are believed to be lost in an avalanche.
