Thanking Rep. Zinke for support of LWCF

Letter to the Editor:
This year, access to Montana’s natural resources was threatened in Congress by agendas that simply don’t understand our traditions and heritage. The Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) became an unnecessary political football, officially expiring on Sept. 30, 2015, despite pleas from Republicans and Democrats alike for the program to remain intact. This year our Congressional delegation made this issue a top priority. Congressman Ryan Zinke followed through on his unwavering support for the LWCF when he made the tough decision to support the omnibus, knowing full well how truly important this conservation program is to Montana.
Access to public lands is the very cornerstone of our tourism economy. Last year alone, visitors to Montana supported well over 38,000 jobs across the state and contributed over $3 billion to our economy. The LWCF helps to enhance the quality and accessibility of the incredible recreational opportunities that keep our outdoor outfitters and guides, most of them small businesses, viable. We find great value in this program and the opportunities it presents Montanans and tourists alike to fully enjoy increased access to our public lands, from Glacier National Park to the Bob Marshall. While we still have more work to do toward permanent reauthorization of the LWCF, Montana Outfitters and Guides Association thanks Congressman Zinke for his vote and willingness to stand behind Montana’s prized conservation and recreation values.

Zinke supports increasing public land access
Hunting and outdoor recreation play an essential role in Montana’s economy. Montana has hunting and outdoor opportunities that other states can only dream of — and Ryan Zinke will work to increase those opportunities by increasing public access to public land, working to open public road closures, and giving Montana more input in management decisions. Ryan Zinke will make sure that future generations can continue the hunting traditions handed down through the generations.
