A Kalispell man died Tuesday morning in a head-on collision between two pickup trucks on Montana 35 east of Kalispell.
Ernest William Thureno, 62, was pronounced dead at the scene after his Ford Ranger pickup truck collided with a Toyota pickup truck.
The driver of the second pickup, a 40-year-old Kalispell man, suffered serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to Kalispell Regional Medical Center. He is expected to recover.
The trucks collided about 6:15 a.m. in the eastbound lane of the highway 5 miles east of Kalispell.
Montana Highway Patrol troopers are still trying to determine which direction each pickup was traveling.
Roads were reportedly icy, but speed was not a contributing factor, according to Montana Highway Patrolman John Underwood. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors.
Both men were wearing seat belts, but Thureno was wearing his incorrectly with the chest strap behind his back, according to Underwood.
