The Thursday Night game between the Lady Savage Heat and the Superior Lady Bobcats was wrought with difficulty, but also perseverance in the face of adversity.

“We had girls sick all week,” said Coach Michele Hunter after the game. She described how girls had to take on new roles, and it made it difficult to play a good game.

To start off the game, the Lady Bobcats quickly took a lead in the first quarter. By the middle of the quarter they had scored 13 points, while the Heat scored zero points.

Just after the halfway mark in the first quarter, Josey Carr scored one of two free throws, taking the score up to one to thirteen. Before the buzzer sounded, the Heat scored two more points, taking the points up to 3 to 25. Superior took advantage of the Heat’s small team and its health.

To start off the second quarter, it did not look good for the Heat. Each team battled back and forth for four minutes. The only score occurred when Carr scored two free throws, taking the score to the Heat with five, the Bobcats with 25.

 Around four minutes left, Superior made consecutive drives, one after the other, racking up 14 points. The Heat made a couple drives, but could not complete and lost possession of the ball during passing and dribbling.

During the third quarter the Bobcats slowed up their climb as the Heat tried to dig their way out. Carr continued to push the team, despite its low score, scoring a few free throws. She could be seen on the court giving direction to her tired teammates. By the end of the quarter, the score was the Heat with eight, the Bobcats with 50.

In the fourth, Carr got an early two points from free throws, and then the team scored two more points. The Bobcats slowed up considerably and the game finished with Superior winning with 52, the Heat with 12.

“I am proud of Josey, she is our team leader... She is definitely our leader.” said Coach Hunter.
