SANDPOINT — The Independent Highway District at a special Jan. 16 board meeting appointed Schweitzer Mountain resident Mel Bailey to replace former commissioner Rich Lowe.

Bailey was appointed by a unanimous vote of commissioners Marj Tilley and Tim Closson after hearing testimony from the public.

“My commitment to the highway district is to communicate and work with all the groups that are at Schweitzer — the resort, the homeowner’s associations and the individual areas that have certain responsibilities for the road within their areas,” Bailey said during an interview at his home recently.
