The No. 5 Glacier boys nearly survived a second straight overtime game, but fell 42-39 to visiting Helena Capital in Western AA conference play on Friday.

Capital scored the first seven points of the game, but the Wolfpack clawed back to make the rest of the game a back-and-forth affair.

Glacier scored the final five points of the first quarter and went shot-for-shot with the Bruins in the second quarter to enter halftime down 21-19.

Glacier (9-5 overall, 3-3 league)took charge in the third quarter and led by four points entering the fourth and by three in the final seconds of regulation before the Bruins (8-5, 4-2) were able to hit a clutch shot to send the game to overtime, tied at 37-37.

In the extra session, the Wolfpack mustered just two points, unable to pull off the heroics it found the previous night against Helena High in overtime.

“They hit a couple shots and we missed a couple,” Glacier coach Mark Harkins said.

“It was a good battle.”

Sam McCamley had a game-high 12 points to lead Glacier.

Casey Ebelt and Keegan Syvrud each had 12 for Capital, Syvrud’s points all coming from behind the arc.

“Defensively we’re playing great,” Harkins said.

“Offensively we’ve got to find some things and put it together. I’m really pleased with our kids’ defensive effort. The offense will come. Once that gets going we’ll be OK.”

Glacier is back at home on Thursday to host Missoula Big Sky before heading on the road for two weeks.
