POLSON (AP) — Police in Polson say a community effort led to the arrest of one of two men suspected of stealing an automated teller machine from a bank on U.S. 93.
Police Chief Wade Nash said that a man was taken into custody Thursday in Flathead County on suspicion of stealing the machine from Community Bank at 6 a.m. on Jan. 30.
Nash declined to release the man’s name or the amount stolen.
He said banks provided police with surveillance video that showed the suspects casing other banks before the theft.
A witness also reported seeing a green Chevrolet pickup in the area at the time of the theft. Nash says the pickup had been reported stolen and helped lead authorities to the suspect.
Officers received a tip soon after the theft led them to a location north of Polson where much of the ATM, minus the money, was found.
Nash says the two suspects in the ATM theft may have been involved in other recent high-profile crimes in the area.
