Basketball roundup: C-Falls boys survive scare from Polson

COLUMBIA FALLS — With the score tied at 59, Columbia Falls’ Ty Morgan was fouled on a 3-point attempt with two seconds to play. He hit all ensuing three free throws, and the No. 1 Wildcats hung on for a 62-59 Northwestern A home victory on Saturday.
Polson gave the defending state champions all they could handle, hitting 11 3-pointers in the contest. Andrew Curley hit seven from behind the arc to lead all scoreres with 24 points.
Morgan finished with 14 for Columbia Falls and Grant Wallace had a team-high 18 points, including the game tying field goal in the fourth.

LIBBY — Collin Johnson connected on a shot off an inbounds play in the last second of regulation to lead Libby to a 47-45 Northwestern A conference victory over Frenchtown.
Johnson scored six of his 13 points in the final quarter as Libby edged the Broncs by three points in the frame. Jonny Cielak had a team-high 15 points for the Loggers.
Bridger Truett scored 25 points to lead Frenchtown in the loss.

Trais Hoisington scored 16 points and Dylan Vaught had 15 for the Blue Hawks, who built a 39-16 lead by halftime in the rout.
Chase Bohne had a game-high 19 points for Eureka. RJ Glover had 17 for the Lions.

RONAN — Ronan nearly erased a 15-point fourth quarter deficit but couldn’t complete its comeback against Troy in a nonconference game.
Gage Tallmadge had a game-high 22 points and Sean Opland had 13 to lead the Trojans, who held on despite being outscored by 11 points in the final quarter. Troy entered the fourth leading 44-31.
Cedric Earthboy scored 17 to lead the Chiefs.

HELENA — The Flathead girls were overmatched against No. 1 Helena Capital, falling behind early in a Western AA conference basketball loss.
The Bruins, who took a 10-3 lead after eight minutes, led by 17 at half and by 27 after three quarters.
Stephanie Wilson had eight points to lead the Bravettes, who saw nine players score in the contest.
McKenzie Johnston had 16 to lead Capital. Mary Bryggman had 14 and Rayna Pilgeram 10 for the Bruins.

HELENA — Katie Wiley scored 16 points and Tessa Krueger scored 12 as No. 2 Glacier held on for a Western AA conference win against Helena High.
The Wolfpack held a big advantage after three quarters, building a 46-31 lead.
Helena mounted a big comeback, outscoring Glacier by nine points in the first three minutes of the fourth, cutting the Wolfpack lead to three with 22 seconds to play before eventually falling short.
Jenna Starke had a game-high 17 points for the Bengals, who also got 13 from Shanna Floerchinger and 10 from Paityn Floerchinger.

COLUMBIA FALLS — Ciera Finberg hit four 3-pointers for a game-high 24 points and the Wildkats cruised to a Northwestern A home victory.
The Wildkats jumped out to a 22-3 lead after the first quarter.
Winter Kemppainen finished with 13 points and seven rebounds for Columbia Falls.
Polson was led by Lauren Lefthand’s seven points. Erin Sampson added six.

The Lions, who led 37-28 entering the fourth quarter, needed to hold on for the win as Thompson Falls erupted for 13 points in the frame. Shey and Autrey Hannum each had 12 points to lead the Blue Hawks.
Evynn Anderson added 11 for the Lions.
