Winter Carnival keeps police busy

The Whitefish Police Department had a busy Saturday due to parking issues and towing thanks to Winter Carnival. Cars were towed off Central Avenue for the parade and others were moved throughout town to make room for residents.
A man on Colorado Avenue called the police to report his mother’s boyfriend trespassing on his property. He had called the night before to report the same thing and the man was back. Officers responded to find the man reclaiming property but on his way out.
A man on Iron Horse Drive reported seeing an open manhole and was afraid an animal or child could fall into it. Dispatch spoke with Montana Highway Patrol and they determined that the Department of Transportation would deal with the issue.
A tow-truck driver on Baker Avenue was allegedly being harassed by an old man who he thought was “stuck on a chunk of concrete.” The driver thought the man was intoxicated and was yelling insults as the driver attempted to help another man with his vehicle. The old man was actually stuck in the mud and calling for help.
A man on Central Avenue called about a group of teenagers in a red pickup truck who were allegedly assaulting people on the street and challenging other young men to fight. The caller had reportedly been struck by these men, and the driver was still cruising around town before heading north over the viaduct.
A caller on Central Avenue reported a man hitting his wife and throwing her over his shoulder. He saw the two on Spokane Avenue and was concerned for the woman’s well being. An officer spoke with the pair and determined the situation was not an issue.
The Columbia Falls Police Department took a call from a business owner who witnessed a man get knocked unconscious in front of the store. He was reportedly unconscious and bleeding from the eyes and mouth. The attacker ran off behind the store.
The Whitefish Fire Department performed an animal rescue at 11:39 p.m.
The West Valley Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Farm to Market Road at 4:39 p.m.
At the same exact time, a call came into the Bad Rock Fire Department regarding a structure fire on Trap Road.
Yet another structure fire hit a structure on Foothill Road at 8:56 p.m., necessitating a call to the Creston Fire Department.
