Jacob Deitz has been selected head coach for boys and girls cross country at Glacier High School.

Glacier activities director Mark Dennehy made the announcement earlier this week in a press release.

The hiring is awaiting approval by the school board.

Deitz was the cross country coach at Flathead Valley Community College. He was one of two applicants for the Glacier position.

“We are extremely excited to have Jacob as a member of the Pack,” Dennehy said.

“Jacob will bring a tremendous amout of experience to the position and he displays a passion for running that will extend to a wide variety of student-athletes.”

Deitz replaces Mike McLean, who stepped down last month to accept the head cross country coaching duties at Rocky Mountain College. McLean was named the Wolfpack’s head coach when the school opened in 2007. He coached cross country and track in the Flathead Valley for 23 years.

He was the head cross country coach at Flathead Valley Community College for 11 years.

Deitz is a science teacher at Linderman.

Glacier freshman sensation Annie Hill won the girls Class AA individual state title last October in Helena. She finished 30 seconds ahead of the field.

The Wolfpack placed sixth in the team standings.

The Glacier boys placed third.

Logan Harmon, a junior, will be the top returner. He finished 13th at state last year.
