Lynn Edwin Bakie, 62
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 9 years, 11 months AGO
Lynn Edwin Bakie was born Feb. 22, 1952, in Council, Idaho, to Elnora "Bonnie" Smith and Hubert Bakie. Lynn passed at home in Spirit Lake, Idaho, on Feb. 9, 2015.
Lynn grew up in Spirit Lake attending school in the Lakeland School District. He married Debbie L. Kunz on Feb. 9, 1974, in Coeur d'Alene. They divorced in 1986; they have two children.
Lynn was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1972, where he attended Basic Combat Training at Fort Ord, Calif., earning the Sharpshooter Commendation and National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1972.
Lynn loved fast cars and motorcycles, tinkering on engines, cutting firewood with his children, hunting, fishing, working in the woods, shooting the breeze with his friends, a good cocktail, and "old-school" TV shows like "Mr. Ed" and "Hogan's Heroes."
Lynn was known for his strong work ethic, and was considered one of the best log truck drivers in the country by many who worked in the woods with him. Lynn was a good neighbor, had a keen wit and an eccentric sense of humor. He valued independence, hard work, family and friends. He was quick to lend a hand and, although ornery, he was truly kindhearted and sentimental. He loved wildlife, sitting down at the lake, and reminiscing about the "good old days."
Lynn spent the last few years in ill health, enjoying the company of his good friend and neighbor Marty Downie while watching some favorite TV shows such as "Gold Rush" and "Deadliest Catch."
Lynn was preceded in death by his mother and father; and brothers Ronnie Bakie and Gary Renggli.
Lynn is survived by his daughter, Casey (Curt) Hammond, of Rathdrum, Idaho, and son Eric (Elizabeth) Bakie of Star, Idaho; grandchildren Brooke, Hunter, Emily, and Abigail; brothers Brad Bakie of Coeur d'Alene, Arnold (Gwen) Bakie of Spirit Lake, and Vern Bakie of Klamath Falls, Ore., numerous friends, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
