Virginia 'Ginger' Lucille Todd, 88
Daily Inter-Lake | UPDATED 9 years, 11 months AGO
Virginia “Ginger” Lucille Todd, 88, “went to be with Jesus” on Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015, at home surrounded by her kids.
She was born in 1926, in Conrad, Montana, to Ida and Walter Fowler. She grew up on the farm with two sisters and five brothers. After graduating from high school, she moved to Kalispell on the train after winning $50 in a "Name that Tune" contest.
In 1948, she married Jim Todd of Kalispell. They began a family and over the course of many years had seven children. Jim and Virginia were married for 56 years before Jim's death in 2004.
Virginia was a vivacious lover of life and an extremely hard worker. Along with raising seven children, she transformed a run-down house into a beautiful home. She became a "jack-of-all-trades" and could easily be found wallpapering, on a ladder painting the ceilings or lugging a hammer around for her latest project. She loved to garden in her yard, and watch the birds in her feeders, protecting them from any encroaching enemy squirrels. Virginia loved to play cards and enjoyed many years of bridge as a master bridge player with her lovely friends. She belonged to a St. Matthew’s Study Club that met for many years. Virginia loved art and over the years she drew, painted and was known for her beautiful stained glass windows. She loved her family and friends, had wonderful dinner parties and is remembered by all who knew her for her feisty sense of humor.
Virginia was preceded in death by her beloved son, Robert Michael; husband, Jim; and brother, Bill.
She is survived by her sisters, Florence Sutherland and Mary Inabnit; her brothers, Dick, Clark, Tom and Jim Fowler; six children, Tom and wife Debbie of Anchorage, Alaska, Jeff and wife Debbie of Reno, Nevada, Joe and wife Roschelle of Kalispell, Bill of Kalispell, John and wife Carrie of Anchorage, and daughter, Mary Young and husband Jim of Anchorage. She also leaves behind 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be held at 12:10 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Kalispell, with a luncheon to follow the service.
