POST FALLS - A report of a home invasion and murder that placed two Post Falls schools into lockdown mode Tuesday morning was a false report, police said.

Mullan Trail and Seltice elementary schools went into lockdown from 9:55 to 10:03 a.m. while police investigated the call in the 900 block of West 12th Avenue. The street is north of both schools.

"The caller provided dispatch with information that someone had entered his house and killed someone," Post Falls Police Chief Scot Haug said. "When we got there, we found that not to be the case."

The 36-year-old Spokane man was arrested on an unrelated charge. He had a warrant for driving without privileges.

A roommate of the caller told police that the man is on a new prescription medication for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

The caller made the home invasion/murder report, then hung up, according to the police report.

When officers responded, the man was found in a downstairs bedroom saying he was scared for his life because of a Spokane gang that was going to kill him.

Officers detained the man and searched the home to ensure no crime had been committed. While the man was being questioned, dispatchers alerted an officer that the man had a warrant.

The man told police that he suffers from panic attacks a few times a week and is on prescription medication.
