P&Z denies retreat permit

SANDPOINT — A controversial proposal to expand a retreat in the Cabinet Mountains was unable to surmount road and access issues on Thursday.
The Bonner County Planning & Zoning Commission voted unanimously to deny a conditional use permit for the Shadow Valley Camp Retreat northwest of Clark Fork. The board held that the proposal was not in accord with the county’s comprehensive land use plan.
The board ruled that the proposal fell short of comp plan objectives related to property rights, public services, transportation and natural resources. Commissioner Margaret Hall also stated that the proposed use more closely fit the definition of a resort rather than a retreat.
