SANDPOINT — An 18-year-old Sandpoint man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly stabbing another man during an altercation.
Tyler John Bowlby-Brooks was arrested on suspicion of aggravated battery, Sandpoint Police Det. Steven Chamberlain said on Thursday. Bowlby-Brooks is expected to make an initial appearance today in Bonner County Magistrate Court.
The alleged victim, 19, was stabbed in the neck and side, according to Chamberlain. He was released from Kootenai Health on Thursday.
The altercation occurred outside a residence in the 1400 block of Church Street shortly before 9:30 p.m. Bowlby-Brooks was apprehended a short distance away from the scene after he reported the incident to Bonner Dispatch, Chamberlain said.
“There was an altercation, at this time we believe, about a relationship,” Chamberlain said. The alleged victim and the suspect were apparently rivals for the affection of a woman.
The incident occurred on New Year’s Eve, but Chamberlain said it was not immediately clear if alcohol was involved.
Bowlby-Brooks was convicted as a juvenile of misdemeanor battery in Bonner County in connection with a May 2014 incident, according to the Idaho Supreme Court Data Repository. He was convicted of battery on separate occasions in Boundary County in 2014, the repository indicates.
