ROCK ISLAND - A Mattawa man was injured on Saturday, Dec. 28, when an oncoming car crossed the center line and struck his pickup head-on.
Juan M. Valdovinos, 45, was driving 2001 Toyota pickup westbound at about 5:30 p.m., the Washington State Patrol said. Eastbound was a 1995 BMW 525. It crossed the center line and struck the Valdovinos vehicle, the State Patrol said.
The BMW was driven by Alfred B. Perez, 47, of Vancouver. Neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor, the WSP said. Both drivers were wearing their seat belts. Both were transported by ambulance to Confluence Health. Randy's Towing impounded the vehicles.
According to the WSP, Perez's car started fish-tailing as it approached the Valdovinos vehicle. Then it crossed the center line. Perez was cited for driving "too fast for conditions," the WSP said.
Also injured and taken to Confluence Health were two passengers in the Perez car. They were Lacy M. Peterson, 36, and Mariah L. Peterson, 17, both of Vancouver.
