MATTAWA - Wahluke High School coach Rigoberto Jimenez took seven wrestlers to the Othello Invitational Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 20, and returned with five medal winners.

On Saturday, Dec. 27, the Warriors had success again at the Hanford Winter Cup at Hanford High School.

At Pasco, Juan Toscano took first place at 113 pounds. Christian Barajas and Christopher Lara finished second at their weights, and Kevin Nunez and Jose Cortes placed third at theirs.

There could have been another placer except that captain Christian Fabela was unavailable.

But Fabela competed at Hanford. He pinned three of his opponents on the way to fourth place in his bracket.

"I haven't seen anyone in a long time wrestle the way he wrestled on Saturday," Jimenez said. "He is applying hard work and dedication to his sport."

Juan Toscano was successful again, scoring two wins by pin. Francisco Tapia won two of his matches by pin. Reyes Ramirez got a win by pin at 220 pounds. Adrian Toscano got a win by a pin at 145 pounds.

In junior varsity competition, Lara took first place, Nunez took third place and Jose Madrigal took third place.

"Overall, I'm very proud of all my student athletes," Jimenez.
