A good portion of Whitefish lost its power Saturday evening when a transformer failed at the Whitefish substation.

About 6,300 Flathead Electric Cooperative members were impacted, including downtown Whitefish businesses, said Wendy Ostrom Price, FEC Public Relations Officer.

The power went out at about 7:30 p.m. and was fully restored around midnight.

“Power restoration was complex and incremental because FEC crews had to shift loads, make repairs, etc,” said Ostrom Price.

The possibility of scattered outages were expected during the snowstorm on Monday and Tuesday.
