Grace R. Mitchell, 92, went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 1, 2015.
Born Grace Rose Frederick on Nov. 17, 1922, in Spokane, Wash., to Harley and Cecilia (Jackman) Frederick. She was raised in Spangle, Wash., where she attended grade school, and as a sophomore attended Mary Cliff Catholic School for girls in Spokane. Her family moved to the Worley area and Grace attended Worley High School during her junior and senior years, graduating in 1940.
While in high school Grace met Jim Mitchell, and the couple was married on Dec. 31, 1940, in Spokane. The couple made their home in North Idaho where Grace was a homemaker, raised her family, and helped her husband in his logging business. They have always lived in the Plummer, Idaho, area and moved out on the hill in 1966 where the couple logged and ranched.
Grace has made her home in Plummer since her husband, Jim, died in 1991. She was a member of the Plummer Bible Church.
Grace loved to garden, enjoyed baking, and was known for sending cards to family and friends for all special occasions. She became a Christian in her 30s and faithfully followed the Lord. She loved to share Christ through her words and her example with anyone she met. Grace also taught Sunday school classes for more than 50 years to anyone from preschool to adults.
Grace was preceded in death by her husband, James Mitchell; brothers Harley and Wilmet 'Babe' Frederick, baby brother Ray; son James Mitchell Jr., and twin boys Roger and Robert Mitchell in the early 1940s.
Survivors include daughters Sandra (Vern) Bingman of Pomeroy, Wash., Sharon Shinnick of Coquille, Ore., sons Mike (June) Mitchell of Plummer, Pat (Lorraine) Mitchell of Stamford, Conn., Dan (Jan) Mitchell of Plummer, Joseph (Kim) Mitchell of Idaho Falls, and daughter-in-law Mary Mitchell of Missouri. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Rose Frederick and Maxine Frederick.
The service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 7, at the Plummer Bible Church in Plummer. Pastors Stan Primer, Dave Donnerberg, and Wayne Eve will officiate with the burial at Evergreen Cemetery in Plummer. Dinner will follow at the Community Center.
Memorial gifts may be given to the Plummer Bible Church for the Children's Camp Fund, or the James and Grace Mitchell Scholarship Fund.
