It was a rough game for the Troy boys basketball team in their afternoon away game at Thompson Falls on Friday, Jan. 2, and not just for the players.
“I’ve been better,” said coach Mee when asked how he was doing after his team’s 59-19 loss. Thompson Falls outscored Troy 23-3 in the second quarter and held a 38-9 halftime lead.
Mee diagnosed the game by saying, “We couldn’t get into our offense and turned the ball over. Then it just snowballed from there.”
Thompson Falls ran a 1-3-1 half-court defense, which Troy struggled against all game. “They have a lot of height up top and we kind of kept throwing the ball into their arms,” said Mee.
After such a tough loss, Mee said it’s important for the team to stay positive. ”I just told the kids to keep their head up. When we play them again we have to make sure we educate ourselves,” said Mee
The Bluehawks’ height and athleticism was a challenge for the Trojans to match up against, Mee said.
As for what the Trojans could’ve done to make it a closer game, Mee said, “That’s it; we’ve got to get into our offense.”
Sean Opland led Troy with six points and Gage Tallmadge added five points.
Troy needs to find their offensive flow quickly. They have a short turnaround this week with their next game on Thursday Jan. 8 in Libby. The varsity game begins at 7 p.m.
