William "Bill" Mahoney was born in Witchata Falls, Texas, in 1954 to Gerald "Big Moe" and Geraldine "Momma Gerry" Mahoney. He had three younger brothers - Mike, Terry, and David.

The family moved from Omaha, Neb., to San Jose, Calif., in the mid-1950s where Bill spent his childhood years, quitting school his senior year to join the United States Marine Corps. After a two-year tour of duty, Bill returned home and married his best friend's sister, Gwen Balaski. They produced two fine young men - the youngest being Derrick, and the eldest being Damon.

Bill and Gwen wanted to raise kids in a better environment than they were raised in, so they packed up and moved to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, in the late 1970s. Bill landed a job with Coeur d'Alene Asphalt the same day he pulled into town, and he spent the rest of his career in the asphalt construction trade. This is where he met his wife Mollie Farber, and in doing so he acquired his third son, Brian Farber.

Bill was truly dedicated to his career, where he gave it 110 percent, 100 percent of the time, along with the "can do" and "you will do" attitude. The men and women that worked with Bill and for Bill had true respect for him.

When he wasn't on the job, you could find Bill working in his yard at home. He took a lot of pride in it, and in everything he did. He loved to play softball or relax on the golf course for 18 holes. He loved camping, fishing, and 4-wheeling; or hopping on the Harley for a ride with the boys.

Bill was not one to just sit around and let the grass grow under his feet. Proof being is that he was running the show until his last breath; that was just how he rolled, God bless his heart. He will be missed by many, but never forgotten.

A memorial service will be held in Bill's honor at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d'Alene.
